THE best of business in central Elgin is to be celebrated thanks to an awards showcase.

Entries open today for the annual Elgin BID Business Awards, run in association with The Northern Scot.

Founded in 2013, they shine a spotlight on the firms and people who bring vitality to the city centre.

There are 10 categories, from retail to finance and from hair and beauty to hospitality and tourism.

New this year is an award honouring a Community Champion who goes above and beyond for the City of Elgin.

Special awards are also presented in memory of the late businessmen David Urquhart and Ian Widdowson, celebrating New Business and Individual Customer Service.

Elgin BID chief executive Gill Neill said: "We have been running the awards for a few years now and are always overwhelmed by the public's response to them.

"Every year thousands of nominations are made and we want to thank the public for continuing to take the time to highlight their favourite businesses and great customer service.

"This year for the first time we have introduced the Elgin Community Champion Award – there are so many people who give their time freely to supporting the city, whether that be by helping at litter picks or volunteering, it really doesn’t matter, we just want to make sure they get the chance to be recognised for their support.

"Please take the time to say thanks and to highlight the businesses you feel deserve it, it really means the world to people."

Nomination forms are available from Elgin BID as well as from The Scot offices and at local businesses.

Voting closes at 3pm on September 6 and finalists will be announced at the BID Business Awards Ceremony on October 2.

Meanwhile, the team is preparing for tomorrow's Food and Drink Festival, taking place in Elgin City Centre from 10am-5pm.
