THE sacrifices made by Canadian service personnel round the globe were honoured at a ceremony at Dallachy.
Saturday, July 1 saw members of the Armed Forces and the local community come together to commemorate Canada Day at a service at Strike Wing memorial where wreaths were laid.
Among the 30 or so guests welcomed to the ceremony was Mary Duncan, the Canadian Honorary Consul for Scotland. Other guests included Moray MSP Richard Lochhead and local councillor Marc Macrae.
Laying wreaths to commemorate the fallen were: Mary Duncan; Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Moray Zara Gordon Lennox; Flt Lt Sam Cooper; Peter Bloomfield (RAFA); Councillor Ben Williams; Chris Overing (representing Lennox Community Council); Flt Sgt James Eddie Stoddart.
Following the ceremony, the guests were invited back to Spey Bay Hall for refreshments. There, Mrs Duncan presented the guests with a Canadian poppy and a brooch. She thanked the community council for the invitation and the hospitality extended to her and husband Robin.
Mrs Duncan then attended the Commonwealth graves at Bellie Cemetery taking photographs of the Canadian and Australian head stones. She met Australian-born Clare Tome who for the past 10 years has placed flags at the resting place of the young Australian and the five Canadians.
During the visit she also met Moira Morrison whose grandfather was the grave digger during World War II.
