One of Scotland's greatest unsolved mysteries is being brought to a stage in Moray next month.

On December 15, 1900, a passing ship noted that the lighthouse on the Flannan Isles was not operational.

A relief vessel was sent out, reaching the remote site west of the Outer Hebrides on Boxing Day.

However no trace was ever found of James Ducat, Thomas Marshall and Donald McArthur, the three men who had been manning the lighthouse.

Their unexplained disappearance is the subject of 'Keepers of the Light', which will be performed at Universal Hall in Findhorn.

Writer and director Izzy Gray said: "The play was largely inspired by my grandfather's profession.

"He was called Sinclair Craigie and he worked as a keeper for the Northern Lighthouse Board for most of his professional life, finishing his career at Covesea lighthouse in Moray.

"I hail from Orkney and all my writing is greatly influenced by the sea, its folklore and communities."

Keepers of the Light is touring coastal venues around Scotland in partnership with the Northern Lighthouse Board’s Heritage Trust.

Its cast includes actor Fraser Sivewright who's from Aberdeenshire.

Meanwhile, the atmospheric music that accompanies the play has been composed by Ewan Watson who also hails from the north east.

Keepers of the Light will be performed at the Universal Hall on Saturday, September 23, from 7.30pm-9pm.
