THIS festive season will be extra special for one Cluny Primary School pupil when she was unveiled as the winner of Moray MP Douglas Ross's Christmas card competition.

Mr Ross paid a visit to the school in order to spring a very pleasant surprise on nine-year-old Chloe Smith whose design – featuring Santa, a snowman and a Christmas tree – clinched top spot in the contest. Primary school kids from across Moray had been invited to submit their designs to the annual competition.

Her creativity has won Chloe an art set and also a mug featuring her card design.

A delighted Chloe said: "This is a big surprise, I didn't think I would win it!"

Mr Ross commented: "Deciding the winners and runners-up in my Christmas card competition is one of my most enjoyable – but toughest – tasks every year as Moray’s MP.

“This year was no different as the standard was incredibly high. There were hundreds of entries from right across the schools in Moray.

"Chloe's drawing is so good. Some kids drew Santas, others snowmen while others had Christmas trees but what really caught my eye was Chloe's drawing used all three. Each time I went through the entries hers kept standing out.

"Her card will look excellent on mantelpieces across the land.

“I want to thank all the pupils from across Moray’s schools for all their entries and I am looking forward to presenting the winner and the runners-up with their prizes.”

There were five runners-up in all: Esmé Robertson (9), Cullen Primary; Hannah Clapperton (11) Logie Primary; Niamh Williamson (6) Newmill Primary; Lucy Milne (7) Greenwards Primary; Rory Gibson (6) Dallas Primary.

The production costs of the card have been met by a total of six sponsors: Walker's; Boyd International; Baxters; Riverside Kitchens; Morayvia; Moray Office Supplies.
