ONLY two locations for a new Forres Academy are still in the running, Moray Council has revealed, and the public have been asked to have their say.
Earlier this week, the council confirmed that a possible location alongside the Grantown Road had been written off following recent studies.
This leaves two plans on the table: either building the new school at Roysvale and Applegrove; or on farmland at Lochyhill, between the Forbeshill estate and the Forres Enterprise Park.
The council already owns the land for the Roysvale and Applegrove plan, while it would need to buy the land for the Lochyhill plan which it estimates would be £4 million more exp
A consultation has been launched, asking the public about which site would be better with results to be revealed at Wednesday, May 22’s full council meeting.
The survey can be completed online, with paper copies available in the Forres Library and Post Office, and will run until Thursday, April 25.
Those keen to quiz council staff can attend community drop-in session at Forres Town Hall, on April 18, from 10am to 7pm.
In an update published on March 28, a Moray Council spokesperson said that
Funding for the new Forres Academy was secured in October 2023, when it was awarded cash from the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP) programme.
Councillor Kathleen Robertson (Forres, Conservative) is the chairwoman of the Education, Children’s Services and Leisure Committee.
She said: “It’s encouraging seeing progress with the improvement plan for Forres Academy.
“Input from our local communities is always valued, I would encourage everyone to get involved with the online engagement and share their views.”
