A restaurant worker has been fined after he got into a physical confrontation inside a takeaway.

Ali Akhbar was drunk when he went into the Miraj on Elgin High Street.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that Akhbar ordered food, then claimed to have already paid.

He opened the serving hatch and went round the other side of the counter, where he squared up to a member of staff.

The two men began to wrestle and Akhbar ended up on the floor.

Defence solicitor Grant Dalglish said his client, who lives and works in Nairn, had very little memory of the incident.

The lawyer added that Akhbar was a hard-working man who was saving up to bring his wife and daughter over to Scotland from Bangladesh.

However, he'd got drunk that night after hearing some bad news.

Mr Dagleish added that his client had gone round since and apologised in person to the other man.

Akhbar was fined £320, which he agreed to pay at a rate of £75/month.
