The Scottish singer, actress and broadcaster will have her own hourly programme called Slainte Mhath!, which is Gaelic for ‘good health!’.

The show starts at 6pm this Saturday (July 6) and will be repeated the following day at 10am.

Fiona said: “I’ve never had my own radio show before so I’m really chuffed to do this summer season for KCR.

“Local radio is something I listen to all the time and is absolutely key to the beating heart of all communities.

“I’m really looking forward to playing a wide range of tracks from many genres which I hope will have broad appeal.

“Music connects us, binds us and helps us in so many ways, whether it’s remembering where we were when an old track from childhood is played, or a tune that takes us to a ceilidh, or an upbeat track to get us bopping around the kitchen to our disco dancing days!

“There will be something for everyone and I’m also very keen to highlight many young wonderful solo singers, musicians and bands from Scotland alongside international performers.”

Fiona Kennedy is the eldest daughter of singers Calum Kennedy and Anne Gillies.

She has spent all of her life on stage, or in front of a camera entertaining audiences.

Her TV appearances include The Witch's Daughter and Sutherland's Law. She presented Behind the Scenes at Monarch of the Glen.

In addition she played Holly in the iconic 1973 horror film The Wicker Man.

Awarded an OBE in 2014, she is also a Deputy Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire.

KCR chairman James Wiseman said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Fiona Kennedy is taking time out of her busy schedule to make eight very special programmes for us.”

Listeners can tune in to Keith Community Radio across Moray on 107.7FM or online at www.kcr.fm
