AN ELGIN man who has been a loyal volunteer with Elgin Boys Club for 57 years was delighted to meet the First Minister of Scotland during a trip to Edinburgh to attend the Queen's garden party at Holyrood.
Mike Christie (85) has been associated with the boys club football league for all but one year of its existence.
He can be seen, hail, rain or shine, at Morriston playing fields every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night from April to June.
Mike's commitment to the organisation saw him invited by the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, Seymour Monro, to attend the garden party earlier this month.
He was also invited for a special tour of the Scottish Parliament building by Moray MSP Richard Lochhead.
And Mike got to meet the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon during his time at the garden party.
"It was a magic day," said Mike, "one of the best days I have ever had."
"We were given a tour of the whole building and even got to sit in Nicola's seat."
He was accompanied by boys club groundsman Geordie Ross. Mike had his Christie tartan kilt on for the occasion.
"The garden party was amazing. The first person we met was the Lord Lieutenant," he said.
They also met Tracy Gourlay, the community champion from Tesco, who was also attending the party.
