First postal vote packs issued to Moray voters for council elections
THE first issue of postal vote packs for the local government elections have been issued to registered postal voters in all of the contested wards in Moray.
Voters are expected to start receiving them from today (Friday, April 15).
This is the first of three postal vote packs to be issued – they will continue to be delivered to electors registered for a postal vote up until a week before polling day. Postal votes must be returned before polls close at 10pm on Thursday, May 5.
Postal voters are reminded to read the instructions carefully as they cast their votes, using the Single Transferable Vote system, for the local government election. Further guidance explaining how to correctly complete and return your postal ballot can be found on the Moray Council website.
Moray’s Returning Officer, Denise Whitworth, strongly encourages postal voters to ensure they take the time to read the guidance contained within the postal packs and to provide the correct information so their vote counts.
She continued: “Postal voting has grown in popularity over recent years as it provides a convenient way for voters across Moray to have their say.
"All postal vote packs are being dispatched by first class mail in time for you to complete and return it before the election.
“We’re unable to count any votes received after 10pm on May 5, so make sure you send your postal vote back in plenty of time. If you forget to return your postal vote, you can hand it in at any polling station in Moray on the day of the election.”
The deadline for registering to vote is April 18. Registered voters applying for, or making changes to, postal or postal proxy vote arrangements have until April 19.
The last date to apply for a new proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. To apply, you and your appointed proxy must be registered to vote.
