MORAY Leisure Centre has gone from strength to strength since joining the region-wide FitLife scheme.

More than 3500 people have signed up since October last year and there has been a 100% jump in usage – in stark contrast to its state of health back in 2017 when it was feared that the centre would have to close.

Moray Council stepped in with a £120,000 lifeline and agreed to fund renovations.

This year's upturn in subscriptions also comes after the installation of a new 100-station fitness suite in April.

The centre has boosted its fitness classes offering – and independent operator Moray Leisure says it now offers more adult fitness classes per week than any other facility in the north of Scotland.

Further adult fitness classes and extended opening times are planned for winter as the centre expands capacity for its growing customer base.

Andrew Wood, acting chairman of Moray Leisure, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the uptake in subscriptions since we introduced Moray Council’s FitLife scheme here in October last year. Our additional classes and the new fitness suite are clearly meeting the demand of residents in Moray and numbers are still increasing.

"With over 150 classes per week catering for GP referral customers, schools, customers new to exercise, sports enthusiasts and our existing customer base, Moray Leisure now offers an outstanding service and value."

Mr Wood said the fitness suite upgrade and introduction of more classes have been well received by the community.

Moray Council’s active schools and leisure development manager, Kim Paterson, said: "It is fantastic to see the positive impact that the FitLife scheme has had at Moray Leisure Centre over the past year.

"Our partnership with Moray Leisure Centre continues to flourish and we are working collectively to continually improve our offerings to local residents and the wider population."
