Flood help for past Moray victims

RESIDENTS in two Moray communities with a history of flooding are being backed by the council in their efforts to secure flood insurance.
Moray Council has now provided householders in flood-risk areas of Rothes and Lhanbryde with written confirmation that they are much less likely to suffer from flooding thanks to the completion of alleviation works.
According to a local authority spokesman, families in parts of Moray affected by flooding have in the past experienced difficulty in getting insurance companies to provide them with cover.
However, with some flood schemes in Moray now complete, he said the risk of flooding has been vastly decreased.
It will now mean that people in Lhanbryde and Rothes will be able to produce the paperwork to help them with their property and contents insurance applications.
Flood schemes have already been completed in Rothes, Lhanbryde and Burn of Mosset in Forres. Work on two other major schemes – at Elgin and Forres (River Findhorn and Pilmuir) – are currently well underway.
After their completion in 2015, the council will issue the same written confirmations to residents in those areas.
