Parts of Garmouth have been hit by floods after the River Spey rose by 7ft in a matter of hours yesterday.

David Mackay's home on Spey Street suffered water damage for the first time in six years – although it's the 22nd time he and his wife have been flooded since they moved there in 1984.

The Garmouth resident said: "Because of all the flooding we had a pump installed, and the house is surrounded by a bund.

"They actually did their job quite well, and we thought we were going to get away with it.

"But in the end we were defeated by the sheer volume of water.

"The only consolation is that without all the measures the damage would have been much worse."

Households used sandbags to protect themselves against the water, with Moray Council delivering more pallets for them during the day.
