A FOCHABERS therapist has been voted best in the north for the second year in a row.

Kerry McKay, of Purity Health Beauty and Well Being, impressed a panel of judges to emerge as clear winner of the Best Complementary Therapist title at this year's North Scotland Hair and Beauty Awards.

The announcement was made during a virtual ceremony, hosted jointly by STV's Chris Harvey and Nicola McAlley, on Sunday, November 29.

Kerry was also one of three finalists vying for the title of Best Beauty Salon, which she said was a big achievement in itself for a small village salon. She was pipped at the post in the category when it went to a public vote.

She said of her win: "I'm absolutely over the moon. It felt really good to get a positive result after dealing with the worry of coronavirus this year.

"It's really nice to be recognised for all the work that goes on behind the scenes. It's a lot of work – running the salon, studying to advance therapies and outside life as I have a girl at nursery.

"I'm really grateful to have something to show for it."

Kerry received her trophy today and also discovered that she is through to the finals in the SHABA Awards' Best Massage category, an award she has picked up twice previously.

Kerry established Purity Health Beauty and Well Being in Fochabers in 2010, opening her own salon in George Street five years ago.

She graduated from college in 2004 with an HND in Complementary Therapies.

The Aberdeen-based awards are designed to promote best practice within the hair and beauty sector across the north of Scotland.
