Highland News & Media, publisher of The Northern Scot, makes a bold statement about its ambitious digital vision for the future with the appointment of Sarah Fyfe.

Sarah joins the business as head of content and audience, managing the editorial output across HNM’s digital platforms and print products. She previously worked as digital editor at ShortList and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, as well as launching GQ’s website in the Middle East.

As a freelance journalist she has written for titles including British Vogue, The Independent and Elle, and has produced videos for brands such as Chanel and Tiffany & Co.

“As a Highlander, raised on the Black Isle and in Inverness, the local communities I grew up in are extremely important to me,” said Sarah. “It’s fantastic to be able to do the job I am so passionate about in the part of the world that I love most.”

She added: “It’s an exciting time to join Highland News & Media and implement our vision. People in the north of Scotland need their voices to be heard, and local journalism has the power to do that.”

Commenting on the appointment, Steve Barron, managing director at Highland News & Media, said: “We are delighted to have Sarah leading our editorial and audience teams through an important time of digital growth. As a journalist who has written for some of the world’s biggest titles, as well as an ex-digital editor and video producer, she has the experience to take our content to a new level. The fact that she is a Highlander, with strong ties to the communities we cover, means there’s nobody better placed for the job.”
