Forres man to stage weekly fasts outside Moray MP's office in climate crisis action

A FORRES man is to stage a series of fasts outside the office of Moray's MP to protest against the UK Government's "lack of urgency in tackling the climate crisis".
Former history teacher John Lardner will begin a series of weekly 24-hour "fasts for life" this Friday, May 7.
Mr Lardner will station himself outside the office of Douglas Ross, in Forres High Street, from 7am-7pm every Friday throughout May.
He said he felt compelled, after a life of activism, to go a step further to ensure politicians listen to the people they serve, adding that time was running out.
He is calling for the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill to be supported.
In a letter to Mr Ross, Mr Lardner states: "Climate scientists and ecologists explain ever more clearly and bluntly that there is very little time left, and movements like Extinction Rebellion, young people like Greta Thunberg, and old people like David Attenborough fear civilizational collapse."
Mr Lardner says that as a retired history teacher, he is "very aware of the forces that are driving our world and our civilisation to the brink of collapse – potentially catastrophic global heating, ecological breakdown and political, social and economic dysfunction".
He adds that he fears for the future of all the children he has taught, all those of his family and friends and indeed all children everywhere, and their offspring, as "the actions of the biggest polluters and the inaction of the government have led us closer and closer to irreversible damage".
Mr Lardner is supporting a Change.org petition calling on Mr Ross to sign the CEE Bill.
