FOUR Moray youngsters have been presented with Girlguiding Hero Awards for going above and beyond to raise money for charity.

Charlotte Smith, Matilda Fickling and Mollie Sutherland from 2nd New Elgin Brownies and Sophie Allan from 2nd Fochabers Brownies were presented with the awards by Girlguiding Moray's country commissioner Louise Winder.

Sophie Allan swung into action when she read a sad story about a little girl called Hannah who had lost her hair while undergoing cancer treatment.

The gift of a wig had given Hannah the strength to keep fighting, so Sophie arranged to have 12 inches cut from her hair to be made into wigs for children like Hannah.

While completing this act of kindness, Sophie raised an amazing £1380 for The Little Princess Trust.

Matilda Fickling was inspired to climb Moray's highest peak, Ben Rinnes, to raise money for Friends of Anchor after they gave her Grandpa Paul amazing support.

She was thrilled to get to the top on what was a sunny but windy day.

Matilda also organised a guess how many sweets are in the jar competition and was thrilled to hand over a cheque for £501.14 to Friends of Anchor.

Mollie Sutherland completed a sponsored swim for the charity Little Heartbeats, who helped support her mum when her little sister Katie tried to arrive 15 weeks early.

Having previously only swum 17 lengths of her local pool, Mollie completed 25 lengths and raised £362 for the charity.

Charlotte Smith raised money for MFR Cash for Kids when she took part in the charity's 5K a day during the month of May.

Girlguiding Moray county commissioner Louise Winder said: "I am so proud to say that we have Brownies who think of others and are willing to challenge themselves for their benefit within Girlguiding Moray.

"The girls all did an amazing job both raising money and awareness of their chosen charities."
