BURGHEAD is receiving a healthy boost from the fuel tank installed on its harbour side last October.

Fishing boats have filled up on 124,000 litres over the course of the months since.

.

Hamish McPherson, chairman of the Burghead and Hopeman branch of the Scottish White Fish Association, states that this figure is far higher than originally envisaged.

He said: "It's very encouraging, especially considering we're in a slow period with many boats over on the west coast at the moment. When summer comes and the squid season starts we're going to be really busy."

The tank was installed to allow vessels to fill up at any time, day or night, rather than having to wait upon the weekly visits of a lorry carrying fuel.

A third of its £36,000 cost was met by Moray Council, the rest was paid for by the European Maritime and Fisheries Board.
