MEMBERS of a new charity fundraising group are calling for extra hands to help raise vital funds.

The Elgin fundraising branch of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) recently formed and are preparing for their first ever event.

On May 4, they will man a stall at Gordonstoun School's Highland Games, but more helpers are needed on the day.

Lauren O’Shane is among those who has already signed up, motivated by family's experience after her son Jordan was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition just a couple of weeks after he was born. Jordan, who is now aged five, started school last August and is doing really well.

She said: "BHF research gives us all hope for the future. I want to do what I can now to help improve diagnosis and treatment for other families like ours."

Around 11,900 people across Moray are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory diseases. Each year these devastating conditions claim the lives of more than 278 people in Moray alone.

BHF Scotland’s fundraising groups are the face of the charity in their communities, supporting its vital work by raising funds in a range of ways, from organising events and collections to supporting schools and local businesses. There are roles to suit everyone, whatever their skills or how much time they can spare.

Kathy McIlwaine, fundraising manager, said: "By supporting your local fundraising group you too can help us fund the research that’s so desperately needed to bring us closer to beating heartbreak.

"It’s also a fantastic way to meet new people and make a real difference in your community."

Anyone who would like to support the group should visit the Elgin BHF Scotland Shop, 165 High Street, or call 07984 152 552.
