Welsh, a hammer thrower who represented Nairn Area Amateur Athletics Club, won the North District Under-20s title at Inverness in May last year, before going on to win a bronze medal in the Age Group Championships in Grangemouth with a personal best.

A celebration of Welsh’s life will be held online on Thursday, July 16, at 1pm and can be attended via live stream. People should contact Tom Ross and Sons Funeral Directors for information on how to attend.

A brief message from Welsh's parents, Ian and Wendy, released to Scottish Athletics read: "The family would like to say thanks to all in the wider Scottish Athletics community for their many kind and heartfelt wishes.

"Heather loved her athletics, and particularly the hammer throw, and we hope to continue supporting Nairn AAAC and Scottish Athletics in memory of Heather’s love for the sport."
