THE future of a Lossiemouth Post Office is up in the air after the tragic death of the owner's partner.

Tony Rook has owned Buckley's Newsagent for two decades, and the Post Office for eight, but now needs time for himself and, therefore, at least two people to help with the shop.

Tony's fiancée, Heather, passed away in February, just two weeks before they were due to go on a cruise together and get married. Tony had proposed in Gleneagles last July.

"Everything that has happened in the last few weeks has been so hard," he said. "I just can't believe it – we had been planning since September and were due to get married.

"There are so many nice people about and I've been privileged to be thought of and have had so many nice words said about Heather and what a good team we were.

"The support has been really nice, but as far as the business goes I am struggling. There's a possibility that the Post Office closes as it's all getting a bit too much.

"I'm trying my best to keep it open, but I need to have a bit of time to myself and get away from the shop more often.

"It's been four years without a holiday and now it's time for a bit of 'me time' and to switch off for a couple of days."

In order to get some much needed time away from work, Tony is hoping to get two members of staff in to help keep the Post Office and shop running in his absence.

The new members of staff will need a driving license, to get the papers out when Tony is off, and be able to work from 7am until 1pm on weekdays with occasional weekend work.

The majority of the work will take place in the shop, keeping shelves stacked and helping customers.

Tony added that he hopes the new employees are "computer-savvy and able to work with the public".

He added: "The worst case scenario is that the Post Office will have to close.

"I can't make that decisions just now but it really is a case of use me or lose me at the moment."

CVs, with two references, can be handed into Buckley's Newsagent Limited at 29B Queen Street, Lossiemouth, or emailed to amr36uk@yahoo.co.uk. Vetting will be carried out by the Post Office.
