A MORAY care home expressed "huge relief" today after a second round of coronavirus testing confirmed the all-clear for both staff and residents.

Glenisla Care Home, in Keith, had been awaiting staff results after testing on Wednesday and Thursday, May 27-28, confirmed that no residents had the virus.

Staff test results were confirmed this morning.

Initial testing earlier in May had shown two residents to have the virus. However, retests of the residents involved showed negative.

A spokesperson for Glenisla said today: "We are pleased to confirm that all test results for staff and residents were negative.

"This is a huge relief to us all.

"However, there is no complacency among the team. The virus has not been defeated and remains a threat.

"We continue to follow national care guidelines at all times."

The first wave of tests started at Glenisla on May 10 after owner Parklands Care Homes confirmed that a woman with underlying health conditions had tested positive for the virus on May 1. The woman had been in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary when she tested positive and later died in hospital.

Following the initial tests, Ron Taylor, Parklands Care Homes director, had issued pleas for further testing to be made available to him by NHS Grampian and also wrote to Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Health Jeane Freeman to express concern over delays.

Ms Freeman acknowledged in Parliament that the delays were unacceptable.

A spokesperson for Glenisla said last week that staff and residents remained in good spirits and thanked the local community for its "tremendous show of support", saying this had boosted morale for all at the home.
