STUDENTS at King Charles’ former school, Gordonstoun took part in a host of activities this weekend to mark the coronation.
The coronation day started off with a splash, with 105 students from the Moray school beginning their Coronation day with a morning run and open water swim. The activity was inspired by a daily timetable from the King's time in the school the 1960s, which was recently discovered in the school archive.
Gordonstoun Guardian (Head Girl) Jennifer M said: “I went for the morning run, it’s not something I would normally do, but because it is a tradition and the King himself would have done it at Gordonstoun, I thought it was good to do it too.”
Gordonstoun Guardian (Head Boy) said: “Even though the water was very cold this morning, there were a lot of us there and it was fun to have so many joining in on the morning of the King’s Coronation.”
Principal Lisa Kerr said, “It was super to be able to join our students on the run along the Moray coastal path, and down onto our local beach at Covesea, which is simply stunning. Such a great start to a busy day of activities at Gordonstoun, to celebrate the Coronation of a former student.”
Gordonstoun students then watched the King’s Coronation in their boarding house, before a day of activities which included an Inter House Sports Challenge and Commonwealth themed supper before finishing in spectacular fashion with over 500 pupils and staff, taking part in a whole school ceilidh on the South Lawn.
Yesterday (Sunday) students continued to celebrate the coronation with open gardens for the local community and friends and family of the school.
Guests enjoyed tours of the campus alongside performances, picnics and a rides on the Ferris wheel. A host of food vans were on hand to ensure no-one went hungry and tea and coffee was served in the orchard.
