Grantown's showpiece hotel – one of the oldest in Scotland – has gone on the market at an asking price of nearly £2 million.

The Category C-Listed Grant Arms has been advertised by Graham & Sibbald who are inviting offers over £1,850,000.

Manager David Duncan confirmed that owner John Woods had decided to let the business go.

This is after having transformed it from a somewhat faded, even rundown building, into a four-star accommodation provider and conference centre trading successfully on the exclusive appeal of Strathspey's unique wildlife.

For some years its reception has been celebrated for its recorded birdsong.

With 51 bedrooms arranged over four principal floors, the original building was built in 1765 and is one of the oldest such establishments in Scotland.

The agents describe the hotel as "a truly stunning town centre opportunity."

They added: "The business has yet to trade to its full potential as a four-star property and we believe it offers an excellent opportunity for new owners seeking to expand the business and develop the trade."

The sale includes bar, restaurant, function rooms, management/staff accommodation.

The hotel's clientèle have over the years included both Queen Victoria and the present Queen.

Its features include Baronial style, turreted windows overlooking The Square in Grantown.
