A CHARITY that helps people living with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) has found a permanent home in Elgin.
Grampian Autistic Society has been helping people with ASC in the area since 1989, and has now moved into Action for Children building in Elgin town centre.
The charity runs playschemes for younger children, outreach support for people of all ages and employment services – among other things.
Billy Alexander, the charity's CEO, said: "There is such a clear need for this service in Moray.
"We are delighted that we now have a permanent presence in the area, having leased the basement of the Action for Children building.
"The facilities provided, which include a sensory room, playroom and wrap around garden, are perfect for us to operate our playscheme every weekend in term time and seven days per week during school holidays.”
Grampian Autistic Society's permanent move to Elgin comes off the back of a successful summer playscheme, which was held at Linkwood Primary School.
The playscheme, which was fully funded by the Scottish Government in conjunction with Moray Council, supported more than 50 children and families over a seven-week period.
After the scheme finished, there was an overwhelming number of requests for it to continue on a permanent basis – with positive comments aplenty from parents.
CEO Billy Alexander added: “We are absolutely delighted our summer playscheme in Elgin was able to support so many children and their families.
"A huge thank you must go to the Scottish Government and Moray Council for funding the scheme as without them it simply wouldn’t have happened."
