Harestone TikTok tops the Spring Show bull sale at Thainstone

A substantial entry of pedigree bulls and females was on show at the Royal Northern Spring Show held at the Thainstone Centre on Wednesday.

The show held in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts was supported by new sponsor Northlink Ferries and judged by Andrew Anderson, Smallburn Farm, Duffus.

A top price of 11,500gns was achieved in the pedigree bulls section for a Charolais bull, with a total of 44 bulls and four females from well-known breeders across the north-east of Scotland going on to sell to new owners.

The Charolais breed produced the highest average of £6542.31 and topped the entire sale at 11,500gns, for a 20-month-old bull from R & N Barclay, Harestone, South Road, Insch. This was Harestone TikTok, a May 2022 born son of Harestone Outlander. The bull sold to D M McCallum, Shoreton Farm, Culbokie, Dingwall.

Two bulls were tapped out at 11,000gns, the first being a Charolais bull, Hollywell Taco from J & S Middleton, Cowfords Farm, New Pitsligo which stood overall champion. The March 2022-born bull was sired by Whitecliff James and sold to Cairness Ltd, Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh. The second was a 22-month old Simmental bull, Islavale Nightriderfrom Mr W S Stronach, Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith.

The May 2022-born Bull is out of Coose Lincoln and went on to sell to W & V Leith, North Crannoch, Crossroads, Keith.

R & A Simmers, Blackmuir Nelson, Blackmuir Farm, Keith took the next top price of 8,800gns for a May 2022- born Simmental bull Blackmuir Nigel. Sired by Blackmuir Krypton, the 22-month-old bull went onto to sell to T & I Alexander, Slickly, Lyth, Wick.

Two bulls achieved 8,500gns, the first being the Limousin Champion, Wedderburn Tom, from Mr J K Hunter, Wedderburn, Huntly. Sired by Sarkley Ronaldo the June 2022-born bull went onto sell to the Robertson’s, Newton of Logerait. Also tapped out at 8,500gns was Rockytop Nimrod, a Aprill 2022-born Simmental bull from G & A Christie Birchfield, Glass, Huntly. He went onto sell to Colin Inglis, Blairsgreen Farm, Saline, Dunfermline.

8,000gns was achieved twice, first for the Charolais reserve champion from A & A Wright, Lagavaich Topgun, Lagavaich, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch. The May 2022-born bull is out of Elrick Jazzman sold to A & W Campbell, 5 West Murkle. Secondly for a 22-month-old Limousin bull from J Penny & Son, Shannas, Clola, Peterhead, which sold to M Delday, Quoy Belloch, Deerness, Orkney.

Closely followed, was a Limousin bull, Oddies Tornado from A & D Nelson & Scott, Odmonston Farm, Laurencekirk which achieved 7,500gns. Selling to E M Smith & Sons, Towiemore, Keith, this 21-month- old is sired by Gunnerfleet Nato.

Two bulls were tapped out at 7,000gns, first for a 22-month-old Limousin bull from J Penny & Son, Shannas, Clola, Peterhead. The April 2022-born bull was sired by Procters Noah and sold to M Delday, Quoy Belloch, Deerness, Orkney. Second to achieve 7,000gns was another Limousin this time from Miller Farms, North Lurg, Midmar, Inverurie. Sired by Wedderburn Princeton, the 21-month-old went onto sell to GM & LD Levack, Balbeg, Mybster, Caithness.

In the Aberdeen Angus section, a top price of 5,000gns was achieved for Ballindalloch Eoin, a 22-month-old bull from Ballindalloch Home Farms, sired by Wedderlie Timaru, the April 2022-born bull sold to J & J Henderson, Udale Farm, Poyntzfield, Dingwall. The Aberdeen Angus champion was awarded to A J Norrie, Wrae Proud Irwin, Wrae Farm, Turriff for a 22-month-old bull, that went onto sell for 4,500gns to S Grant-Mackintosh, Lower Achnahannet, Dulnain Bridge, Grantown on Spey.

In the sale of Limousin females from J Penny & Son, Shannas, Clola, Peterhead, a top price of 2,800gns was achieved three times over selling to A R Ironside, Cairnbo, Gamrie.
