A CRISIS fund has been launched to help provide for military families hit by the impact of COVID-19.

Scottish Armed Forces children's charity The Royal Caledonian Education Trust (RCET) has launched the fund for serving, veteran and reservist families.

RCET will respond to families affected by the crisis by providing food vouchers, paying for utilities bills and supplying children’s clothing to ensure that families can stay warm, clothed and fed for as long as the crisis continues.

A charity spokesperson said: "Many families will be struggling with less income but with potentially bigger household bills and worrying about where the money to buy the essentials will come from."

The charity has received £5,000 towards its response from Foundation Scotland but is calling on support from local communities to donate so that it can support as many families as possible – at www.rcet.org.uk/support-us/thrive or by calling 0131 322 7350.

Karen Stock, children and families support service co-ordinator, said: "We are delighted to receive this funding at such a critical moment in our support of Armed Forces and veteran families. Many families are struggling financially and emotionally due to the COVID crisis and this grant will allow us to reach many more families who need our support."

If you, or a family you know in your area could benefit from some help during this difficult time, contact Ms Stock at familysupport@rcet.org.uk or call RCET’s head office on 0131 322 7350.
