URGENT help is needed to spread joy to Moray's most in-need this Christmas as part of an emergency appeal – with only a week left to donate presents.

The St Giles Centre’s gift giving tree – which runs in association with the Christmas Toy and Food Appeal – aims to help children and young people who may not receive a present at Christmas.

As of last year, the centre is also accepting food donations for Moray Food Bank.

The appeal's organisers placed 200 tickets on the tree earlier this week. Each ticket has the age and gender of a child.

The idea is that shoppers take one off the tree, buy an appropriate present, then bring it back.

The centre is appealing for more help as some charities have missed the boat in terms of getting presents.

Centre manager Stephen Young said: “The support from the public has been phenomenal. Every year we get thousands of tickets.

"As soon as we put the tickets out, the giving tree is usually stripped bare.

“We use a vacant unit because of the amount of presents – but even this gets filled.”

Stephen has praised the support from businesses who have donated, as well as the companies running the Moray-wide collection points.

He continued: “Having the ability to give back to the community is massively important and we are prepared to help in any way that we can.”

If you would like to donate, please collect a gift tag from the St Giles Centre and return a present by Wednesday, December 20.
