Tom Stoltman from Invergordon vowed to his mum, who passed away in 2016, that he would win the World’s Strongest Man contest.

And last night in Sacramento, California, the 27-year-old won the title, despite being pushed all the way by American four-time world champion Brian Shaw.

Tom said: "It means everything.

"Since I started this journey I have always wanted to win World’s Strongest Man and get to compete against my heroes.

"Back in 2019, I said in a live interview that, in three years time I would win the world’s strongest man and I’m standing here having made my dream a reality."

In last night's contest Tom took a nine-point lead following the first two events.

But then he experienced a disastrous fourth event, only managing eighth place in the max log lift.

His big lead had evaporated to just one point.

But then in the final event – the Atlas Stones – Tom powered his way to victory by taking maximum points.

Tom’s brother older, Luke, also competed in the contest, finishing seventh overall.

The 36-year-old said he was hugely proud of what Tom has achieved.

Luke said: "I don’t think there is a prouder person on planet Earth right now.

"Tom had a plan. He stuck to it and he fulfilled his promise to my mum.

"I am really proud of him and I can’t wait to party."
