DRIVERS planning to take on the North Coast 500 road trip this Easter weekend are being advised to make sure they prepare for poor coverage along the route.
A mobile mapping survey by connectivity specialists, FarrPoint discovered that there are more than 34 miles of of the North Coast 500 is without any 4G coverage.
In addition, more than a quarter of the route is only covered by either one or two mobile phone providers, meaning a loss of phone signal could impact many on their road trip.
The company are encouraging drivers to be aware of spots with low coverage and plan ahead for a lack of access to mapping apps and being unable to make calls and texts.
Despite the beauty of the route, drivers could quickly run into issues navigating the winding country roads, so it is important to download digital maps and check which areas have coverage before setting off.
According to FarrPoint’s analysis, EE was found to offer the best coverage, covering 89 percent of the route, while Three mobile users may struggle with just over half of the route covered by the company, leaving more than 252 miles of the 500 mile journey without mobile coverage.
Visitors using the North Coast 500 route are encouraged to look at their operator’s coverage levels in advance so they can make informed decisions and prepare before travelling.
