The church was formed – mostly by local fishing families – in 1898 on the town's Clark Street, where it has remained ever since.

Before the formation of Hopeman Baptist Church, its founders walked 12 miles alongside coastal, cliff-top paths to Lossiemouth and back every Sunday to attend the nearest Baptist congregation.

Several descendants of the founders continue to play an active role in the congregation, although the church is notably international with worshippers from the USA and South Africa.

Since 2015, American missionary Reverend Matt Moeller has led the church as Minister alongside his wife Ericka, who is active in both women’s and youth ministry.

To mark the church's anniversary, it will be hosting a series of celebratory events. The next is a coronation afternoon tea, open to all, on Monday, May 8 from 2pm to 4pm.

Hopeman Baptist will also hold an exhibition of old church photos during Hopeman Gala Week, with anyone with any old photos or video invited to get in contact at HopemanBaptistChurch@icloud.com

In addition to its weekly Sunday Services, Hopeman Baptist Church has a busy schedule of events including a weekly Ladies Bible study, Prayer and Bible study, Adventurers and Explorer Groups for primary and high school students as well as a fortnightly Friendship Hour.

Full details of all events can be found at HopemanBaptistChurch.com
