THE head of NHS Grampian has spoken out publicly to counter persistent rumours that the future of Dr Gray's Hospital is under threat.

Amanda Croft, the organisation's interim chief executive, gave her backing to the Elgin hospital in a video statement released on its Facebook page.

Stating that the hospital is "absolutely not under threat", Professor Croft added: "Dr Gray's has a really bright future in NHS Grampian and in the north of Scotland.

"I know there are concerns because there are staffing issues around women's and children's at the moment. We have had to reconfigure services to react to all of these challenges that we have. But as a health board we have these challenges in other places, such as Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Cornhill Hospital and Woodend Hospital. So it isn't just Dr Gray's where we have had to change services. But just to reassure people – Dr Gray's is not under threat."

The hospital's clinical director Jamie Hogg welcomed the intervention.

He said: "The hospital is here to stay, and we are determined to see it go from strength to strength. Our teams continue to run a safe, effective service at the hospital and we're still caring for thousands of patients every month."
