Graham Leadbitter (Elgin City South), Jérémie Fernandes (Elgin City North), Theresa Coull (Keith and Cullen), John Stuart (Buckie) and Sonya Warren (Buckie) have all backed Mr Yousaf's bid to become leader of the SNP.

Mr Yousaf said: “I am honoured to have the backing of our top class SNP councillors in Moray.

“Throughout my campaign I have discussed with SNP members the need for a new deal for local authorities which is focused on empowering the communities which we serve.

“Every day more and more of our party members are backing my positive campaign to build on the SNP’s progressive platform and to unite and grow support for the wider independence movement.

“As the grassroots candidate in this leadership contest, I want to build the fairer, wealthier and more equal Scotland that we all know is possible.”
