Moray Council: Hustings with Elgin council candidates

Elgin Community Council is holding a hustings with prospective candidates for the Scottish local government election on May 5.

There are three seats available in each of the town’s two wards, Elgin North and Elgin South.

Each ward has six candidates aiming to secure a place on Moray Council.

The event at Elgin Town Hall on Tuesday evening will give the public the chance to quiz them on their priorities.

Alastair Kennedy, the community council chairman, said: "We held a hustings for the last local government elections, and that was a success so we thought we’d do it again.

"It will give folk the opportunity to gauge the candidates and help them decide who to vote for."

Each candidate will allowed to speak for four minutes before they face questions from the audience.

The hustings will run from 7pm to 9.30pm.

The Elgin North candidates are:

  • Neil Alexander (Scottish Liberal Democrats)
  • Amber Dunbar (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party)
  • Jérémie Fernandes (SNP)
  • Graham Jarvis (Independent)
  • Rebecca Kail (Scottish Green Party)
  • Sandy Keith (Scottish Labour Party)

The Elgin South candidates are:

  • Peter Bloomfield (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party)
  • Paul Briggs (Independent)
  • John Divers (Scottish Labour Party)
  • Michaela French (Independent)
  • Graham Leadbitter (SNP)
  • Bernard Salmon (Scottish Liberal Democrats)
