Lossiemouth is more renowned for its golden beaches, fantastic golf courses, fast jets and its delicious ice creams.

However, the Jewel of Moray - used to welcoming thousands of visitors every year in normal times - has been shivering like the rest of the country.

The mercury dipped to a 70-year record low of -15.9 degrees celsius on Wednesday night in the coastal town.

Heavy snowfall in the last few days has been compounded by plunging temperatures.

Braemar saw -23 degrees, the lowest temperature in Scotland in 25 years.

The snow was still lying on the east and west beaches in Lossiemouth, which, in different circumstances, are normally a haven for sun-worshippers in the summer.

Youngsters have been taking advantage of the snow to enjoy sledging and impromptu snowsports, while the golfers have been cursing their bad luck with both courses at Moray Golf Course under a thick blanket of snow.
