YEARS of neglect are set to come to an end for an iconic Lossiemouth property after it was placed on the open market this week.

The house, located on Prospect Terrace, has been left empty for more than 20 years and has repeatedly been targeted by vandals and used by squatters.

In 2015, a fire tore through the property's roof and Moray Council served a demolition order on the building. However, they could not trace the owner – who is believed to be a U.S. resident.

But now, due to its dangerous condition and the lack of response from its owner, the building has been compulsorily purchased by Moray Council – and has been placed on the open market, with bids of more than £150,000 being considered.

Although only released through estate agents this week, enquiries have been flooding in.

The imposing house sits on a large plot and enjoys commanding views of Lossiemouth and the East Beach.

A closing date of January 15 has been set for offers on the property.

Full details are available from the agents Harper Macleod in Elgin. For more information, check out www.estateagencymoray.co.uk.
