Elgin Sheriff Court heard that Somporn Fredriksson (44) was at home with her partner on South Street on October 12, 2022 when the pair started drinking.

The following morning, her partner got ready to leave for work at around 7.45am but noticed that Fredriksson was still drinking and was "very intoxicated".

When he returned to the home at 11.30am the same morning an argument ensued before Fredriksson grabbed an empty bottle.

To stop her, he took hold of her arm but she reacted by biting his wrist, leaving a bite mark.

He went upstairs to collect his belongings and leave but noticed that the front door was open and Fredriksson was outside.

He also noticed that she had a knife in her hand.

The court heard that she then made her way onto North Guildry Street, still with the knife in her hand, when she was approached by a member of the public and her partner.

He took the knife from her and the pair walked her to Elgin Police Station.

Defence solicitor Stephen Carty said that the incident was "totally out of character" for the 44-year-old who has no previous convictions.

He added: "Clearly the situation was not assisted by alcohol and she accepts that her conduct was not acceptable.

"She appreciates that it could have been handled better but the situation very quickly calmed down.

"I understand that she is hopeful of a reconciliation and that the complainer also wishes to continue the relationship."

Fredriksson plead guilty to amended charges of assault and carrying a knife in a public place.

Sheriff David Sutherland deferred sentence for good behaviour with a review scheduled for January 18.
