WITH a rising number of people in need this Christmas, The Northern Scot's generous readers are needed more than ever.

The Christmas Toy and Food Appeal, organised in conjunction with Moray Council's social work department, began four weeks ago and so far donations have been coming in at a steady rate.

However, with the ever-increasing demand during this time of year, there is a need for many more donations.

Linda Commons, the co-ordinator of the toy appeal for the Northern Scot, said: "We are overcome with the kindness of the Northern Scot readers but every year there is more and more referrals.

"We hope for more donations and for collection points to be as busy as they were last year."

Suitable items for donations include toys, sports equipment, toiletries, as well as non-perishable food items such as bottles, tinned and dried goods, soups and preservatives.

Donations can be handed into The Northern Scot office on South Street in Elgin, Grampian Furnishers, Macrae and Dick in Elgin; Scotmid in Bishopmill; the New Elgin Post Office; Moravian Motors and Buckie Furniture in Buckie; Ian Watt in Lossiemouth; Forres Post Office; The Deli Shop in Keith; Frank Ogg and Son in Aberlour and Christies the chemist in Fochabers.

Donations should be made before December 14.
