A CHURCH service will be broadcast across Moray a week on Sunday thanks to Keith Community Radio.

With churches closed for the foreseeable future, the non-denominational service will be broadcast on the station's short wave FM 107.7 frequency.

KCR's chairman Eddie Stuart said: "A few of the church ministers are going to get together to do this.

"David Sim, who is a trainee minister as well as a volunteer at the station, is also helping to organise things.

"During the show, which will be on a week on Sunday, there will be hymns and prayers.

"People right across Moray will be able to hear it if they tune in.

"A lot of people are going to miss not going to their local church on a Sunday morning so we wanted to do this for them.

"It's the type of thing that a community radio should be doing.

"We will continue to do what we can while all this is going on."

KCR is also stepping into the breach after the North Eastern Accordion and Fiddle Club was forced to call off its next regular gig at the Royal British Legion in Keith on Tuesday, April 7.

That performance will instead be broadcast live over the radio.

The radio's station former chairman John Seivwright still presents the popular Mainly Scottish show every Friday evening.

However John is currently self-isolating at home because he has multiple sclerosis.

Therefore, temporarily stepping up to the microphone this evening from 6pm-8pm will be Callum Stuart.

Callum is well-known throughout Keith and beyond as the man who sets up a spectacular Christmas light show outside his home every December.

Like John he is also a fan of traditional music.

The church service will be broadcast on Sunday, March 29, at 10am.
