TEENAGER Stuart Carnegie had a dream to start his own business from an early age and has been saving his hard-earned cash since the age of 13 to make it come true.

Prudent Stuart religiously saved his pocket money and wages from jobs after school and at weekends.

He launched his own mobile valeting business last year and six months down the line, business is booming for Stuart, from Keith, who has urged other youngsters to consider going into business.

The youngster set up his own SC Valeting business with no cash help from the bank or any other institution, although he did seek some advice from Business Gateway.

"I have always been pretty good at saving money. I managed to save enough to buy myself a van and some equipment to get started," he said.

"It was a big step and a lot of people said I was brave to do it. I just determined to go for it."

The former Keith Grammar School pupil added: "I have taught myself to be careful with money. I go out occasionally but not every weekend and I am not a guy for designer clothes."

Stuart studied computer-aided design at Moray College but ultimately decided an office-based job was not for him. He travelled the country for years with a local businessman selling tools at trade fairs and country shows.

"I would be up at four in the morning and back home at five o’clock at night both days most weekends from the age of 13," he said.

Stuart also worked after school in a local workshop servicing pushbikes, lawnmowers and other similar items. Parents Tony and Brenda have supported him all the way.

"We are so proud of what he has achieved. He has always been a hard worker and has a good head on him," said Mrs Carnegie.

In his first few months Stuart has built up a client base all over Moray and even as far afield as Inverness. Although his main business is providing a mobile service, he also has a small workshop in Keith.

The go-ahead teenager already has a Facebook site to promote his business and is looking to develop a website too.
