LOSSIEMOUTH Community Council has thanked people for their "acts of kindness and compassion" which have helped others through the Covid-19 crisis.

The community council and other organisations in the town have spearheaded the local effort to look after the most vulnerable.

It has just completed another information leaflet drop to more than 4000 homes in the coastal town thanks to local volunteers.

Along with the Lossie 2-3 Group, the Baptist church and the Lossiemouth Community Development Trust, the community council has been delivering meals from Moray Food Plus and local businesses to those most in need at this time.

A spokesperson said: "We have gone out with hundreds of emergency care and food packages to families and individuals in need and we have delivered fruit and vegetable boxes too.

"We have been able to help with emergency vouchers when people have been most in need and help to go out and get shopping for people who are isolating.

"The financial hardship has been terrible for so many families in our community and that on top of the isolation and continued inability to work has added to significant pressures too.

"It has been particularly difficult for vulnerable people, whether that means older folks or people with disabilities or those struggling with mental health or physical health problems for those stuck indoors with small children."

The community council paid tribute to its "amazing band of volunteers".

The second newsletter drop is intended to reach out to anyone who may have been missed through the community response so far and is in need of help and support.

The update contains a list of emergency and support organisations, locally and nationally, who people can turn to for help.

And it adds: "A huge thank you to all our key workers without whom our world and lives would have collapsed. Stay safe everyone and please get in touch if you need us."

Anyone who needs support locally can phone the community council on 07985 396 706 (10am-4pm Monday to Friday) or the Lossie 2-3 Group 07495 912 654 (1oam-4pm, 7 days a week).
