THE King presented representatives of the North Scottish Area Boys Brigade with a baton at the Braemar Gathering at the start of September.
His Majesty King Charles III presented North Scottish president James Allan, from Lossiemouth, and five young members with the 140 baton at the event on September 2.
The baton handover and following relay are part of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the North Scottish Area Boys Brigade.
The brass baton, topped with the Boys Brigade logo, contains a message to members from the The King and a reply from James Allan. It was previously used in 1983 in Buchan Battalion to celebrate the centenary year.
The baton will travel around the North Scottish Area, principally on foot but also by boat and air, visiting companies in Aberdeen, Buchan, Banffshire, Moray, Highland, Orkney and Stornoway.
In total, it will visit 50 companies, where The King’s message will be read to Boys Brigade and Girls’ Association members. The baton will also visit community centres and landmarks.
North Scottish Area President James Allan said: “Covering a large area from cities to remote rural communities, the baton relay will give an opportunity for all our members to take part.
"Starting with The King, we hope it will spread the good news of the Boys’ Brigade around the north and make our members feel more connected to other young people in the North Scottish Area."
The North Scottish Area Boys Brigade has coordinated companies and events in the north of Scotland since 1914. It is composed of approximately 1750 young people and around 350 leaders. The area is considered to be everything north of Stonehaven and Fort William.
