Kyle (20), from Alves, was taken off his life-support machine this week and is making good progress.

Mum June is at his bedside and she told ‘The Scot’: "He has made a massive recovery and nobody here can believe it. Hopefully, within the next week, he will be getting flown back to Scotland."

Friend and fellow Celtic fan Allan Donaldson revealed that Kyle has been in contact through text messages from his bed.

"It is still early days but he seems to be in better form. He is excited about getting back to watching Celtic," he said.

The Moray College student collapsed just hours before he and fellow members of the Moray Emerald Celtic Supporters Association were due to fly home after watching their heroes play Ajax.

Allan set up a PayPal donation line to help provide support for Kyle and his mum in the event that insurance does not cover the full cost of his That has so far generated in excess of £1,800.

Kyle was born with a rare blood disorder, known as congenital dyserythropoietic anaemia, a deficiency in the red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. He required regular blood transfusions for years and, in 2009, underwent a bone marrow transplant.

Celtic Football Club has also offered any support it can to the family and the Moray supporters group is providing the club with regular updates on his condition.

PayPal donations can be made by e-mailing Allan at adonaldson1986@gmail.com
