Harper Macleod LLP has taken over the Wink & Mackenzie firm in Moray.

People all around Moray may have noticed a new name appearing this week as one of the area’s best-known law firm and estate agencies took on a new identity.

From Monday, one of Scotland’s most prominent law firms Harper Macleod LLP established a permanent presence in the region, taking over Elgin’s Wink & Mackenzie.

As part of that process, the Wink & Mackenzie legal office at the Old Station and Property Shop on High Street has undergone a facelift, with new signage the most visible element of the exciting changes the move has brought.

While the W&M brand won’t disappear and the logo will still be adorning “For Sale” signs over the coming months, the firm will now be known as Harper Macleod LLP incorporating Wink & Mackenzie. The Property Shop, which leads the way in buying and selling local homes, will keep the W&M logo but as part of Harper Macleod.

The same friendly faces will greet visitors at both locations, with partners Ian Davidson and Lauren Wright and the entirety of the former Wink & Mackenzie’s 15-strong staff still on hand to deliver the service clients are accustomed to, while Damian Marinello will remain as a consultant to the firm.

However, while Wink & Mackenzie was best known for its property work and delivering excellent legal services to individuals and families, it will now be able to add the full strength of Harper Macleod’s expertise in all areas.

Harper Macleod is a full service law firm, with teams of dedicated specialists advising individuals and families, businesses and the public sector. The firm also has a specialist rural economy team, which advises in all areas of Scotland’s modern rural economy, from businesses to the marine economy as well as traditional areas of agriculture, fishing and forestry.

Harper Macleod incorporating Wink & Mackenzie can make a positive difference for even more people and organisations in Moray

Elgin now joins Inverness, Thurso, Lerwick, Glasgow and Edinburgh on the roll call of Harper Macleod locations.

Harper Macleod chairman Professor Lorne Crerar CBE, who is also very well known as the long-term chairman of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be here. Harper Macleod has grown across the Highlands and Islands over the past 15 years and while we have many friends and clients in Moray, until now we couldn’t call it home.

“It’s long been an ambition of ours to change that and there is no better way than to welcome Ian, Lauren and the entire Wink & Mackenzie team into the Harper Macleod family.

“As well as being a great place to live, I know from first-hand experience the exciting opportunities that exist in the area. The economy is thriving and I believe it is only going to grow. Whether it’s in food and drink, tourism, energy or manufacturing, I also believe Harper Macleod incorporating Wink & Mackenzie can make a positive difference for even more people and organisations in Moray.”

Ian Davidson said: “Before we announced this move I knew that we were a great match as our ethos was very similar. Since then it has been everything we hoped for and more, and I am excited about what the future holds for our clients and our people.

“When we contemplated this move it was important to us that our goals didn’t change – we want to deliver the very best legal and estate agency services for our clients here in Moray. Being part of Harper Macleod will let us do that and so much more.”
