The school's work to foster an inclusive and caring environment for Lesbian Gay Bissexual and Transgender (LGBT) students has been comprehensive.

That included having a champion group within an LGBT club, organising a range of events and promotions.

Among the events was a whole school day, including stalls and activities, creating posters, raising awareness, delivering talks to parent council and parent evenings, and organising LGBT training for staff, with around 70 per cent having gone through it so far.

Further training, theme days and transition events for P7s moving up to secondary school are also in the pipeline.

Teachers Shannon Campbell and Kate Harvey supported the students to set up the LGBT.

Ms Campbell said: "We are absolutely delighted to be the first school in Moray to go for the award and to be able to bypass bronze and go straight to silver.

"It is a really big achievements for the pupils."

There are six students in the champion group and around 15 in total involved in LGBT issues.

Another event was a Heartstopper day, which was based around a graphic novel about two gay young men.

Added Ms Campbell: "A few other schools are signing up now after seeing the progress we have made."
