By the start of this month a total of 276,600 applications had made to stay in Scotland.

However, it is possible that as many as 13,180 EU nationals living in the country have yet to apply.

Richard Lochhead said: "Since the referendum in 2016 my message to EU nationals living in Moray has been clear – Scotland is your home, you’re our family and we very much want you to stay here.

"As the deadline approaches, it is a worry that there are thousands of people in Scotland who’ve still to apply.

"I want to issue a final plea to EU citizens in Moray to apply before next week’s deadline.

"There’s a real danger that people’s lives could be turned upsides down.

"It’s deeply disappointing that the UK Government ignored calls to extend the deadline, and so I sadly have to reiterate just how critical it is that EU citizens living in Moray complete their application before June 30.

"For those who need help or assistance, the Scottish Government toolkit may be useful and the EU Citizens Support Service helpline is on hand to offer advice.

"Of course my office will also do all we can to help anyone in Moray looking for support."
