A LOCAL man has been left dismayed after graves at Elgin Cemetery were vandalised.

Zafar Ali, from Buckie, said it was "upsetting" to see the graves of his parents, Manira and Nemat, and sister – Shabana – damaged by vandals.

The vandalism took place between Monday, August 15, and Friday, August 19.

Zafar said: "It was just our family ones that were vandalised.

"I don't think they were targeted, they have been there seven years with no hassle.

"Stuff has been taken off the grave and smashed. The flower holder was taken out and stamped on.

"My mother was a shy character, she wouldn't have said boo to anyone, so it's upsetting."
