A MORAY musician has raised thousands of pounds for a local charity with a stay-at-home gig.

Paddy Farrell (37) raised £2128 for Moray Food Plus by playing on the balcony of his Duffus home and streaming it on Facebook Live.

Paddy, who works in logistics at RAF Lossiemouth, went live at 2pm and played for more than four hours.

He said: "I wanted to do something in the community. There are a lot of people struggling and losing their jobs.

"I usually play in local pubs but recently I have been interacting with mates through livestreams and taking requests.

"People were donating to my PayPal and I thought I could raise money for charity that way.

"Even before I had started, I was amazed at what people donated.

"In the four hours I was signing we raised £1500, but we raised £500 in the three days leading up to the gig. It is a fantastic amount."

Mairi McCallum, from Moray Food Plus, thanked Paddy for his efforts.

She said: "We are delighted to receive this amazing donation from Paddy and are pleased that his fundraiser was a success and well supported.

"It was such a fun and innovative way to raise funds and we would also like to thank everyone who donated and made Paddy sing for even longer!"

Paddy, who is originally from Falkirk, was posted to Lossiemouth in 2012 and has made his home in Moray.

He regularly gigs across north-east Scotland, from Inverness to Aberdeen, but, during lockdown, has been streaming gigs on Friday nights instead.

He admitted he has been missing gigging, but says live-streaming has provided a new way of keeping people connected.
