LOCAL singer and actress Wendy Carr is set to host an online Christmas concert this year for the people of Keith.

The Keith Community Christmas Concert will take place at 7pm on Sunday, December 13, with folk music and festive favourites provided by Wendy Carr.

The concert will also feature special performances from groups and performers from across the area.

Wendy said: “I wanted to give local groups and performers something to work towards and share with friends and family, as all live entertainment and gatherings in the lead up to Christmas have been cancelled due to Covid-19.

"Not only that, but I think the local communities will be excited to have a family-friendly concert that they can attend – even if only virtually.

“I’m excited to be featuring some amazing talent from the local area, including the Strathspey Fiddlers, the Keith and District Silver Band, highland dancers, solo musicians and many more.

"The concert will be free to watch, however the audience will be encouraged to make a donation to our charity fund.

"Charities are greatly suffering because of the pandemic, so we would love to raise as much money as we can for Keith Cancer Link, REAP and Keith Rotary Club.”

During the concert, there will be details on-screen of how to donate via the concert’s unique PayPal Pools link.

Sonya Warren of Keith Rotary said: "We are delighted to have someone as talented as Wendy present this virtual concert as, due to covid-19, Keith Rotary is unable to have its annual Christmas Carol Concert.

"Hopefully this will bring much needed festive cheer to the community whilst showcasing some of our very talented local musicians."

Ms Carr comes from Keith and attended The Gordon Schools in Huntly as a teenager. Growing up she was a member of Stagestars Scotland in Keith.

A multi-talented performer, Wendy has had an expansive career. Having trained classically, she has had leading roles in opera and musical theatre, but is also an original member and musical director of London’s leading classical-crossover girl group, Ida Girls London. Ida formed in 2015 and have since performed on BBC One, at Windsor Castle, and at West End LIVE to more than 20,000 people.

During 2020, Wendy moved from London to her family home in Keith and has been busy recording and creating her Wendy Sings Wednesday videos on her YouTube channel, including collaborations with other singers and musicians, as part of her DistanSING series.

She has also been featured in multiple online concerts, which inspired her to create the upcoming Keith Community Christmas Concert.

Make sure to tune in to the Keith Community Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 13, on Wendy Carr’s Facebook page (facebook.com/wendycarrofficial) or YouTube channel (youtube.com/wendycarr).
