LOCAL Conservative councillors have welcomed the re-election of Douglas Ross as the MP for Moray.

Mr Ross was returned to his seat with a majority of 513 in last week's General Election, and said this week he was eager to look to the future with Moray Growth Deal a priority.

Councillor and Moray Conservative election agent Marc Macrae (Fochabers Lhanbryde) said today: "We were delighted with the result last week which saw Douglas returned to Westminster to represent Moray for the next five years.

"At last we have an opportunity to finally get Brexit done and move the country forwards, returning stability and confidence to commerce and industry.

"Whilst much of the voting was tactical which saw an increase in some party votes at the detriment of other candidates, the hard work and commitment Douglas has given the people of Moray as a councillor, an MSP and MP can now continue."

Mr Macrae's colleague, Conservative group leader Councillor Tim Eagle said: "Douglas has been a strong voice for Moray for many years and as a local man living, working and bringing up his family here he fully understands the pressures we all face on a daily basis.

"His support to my colleagues and I has been invaluable. He has championed the growth deal through parliament which saw us receive a deal better than any other area of the UK so far per head of population.

"We will continue to work closely with him to best support the residents of Moray and to press the Scottish Government for fairer funding to protect the local services and jobs which are important to us all."
