The sun is shining as brightly as it has done for weeks on the fourth full day of lockdown.

The sun was beating down on Lossiemouth on a surreal lockdown day.

On a daily exercise walk with my daughter, it was fantastic to breathe in the fresh sea air, for a short time at least.

There were few people on the go, the odd family out walking, people walking their dogs, joggers and people heading to the food shops to stock up on vital supplies. There was one guy in the sea, full wet suit and surfboard - not sure if that falls strictly within the lockdown do's and don'ts but he was having fun and doing it on his own.

It feels so surreal, and it was a heartbreaking to see the promenade at Lossiemouth so empty on such a lovely day.

But also reassuring at the same time that people, in the majority, are observing the strict lockdown rules that now apply, and will be part of our lives for the next few weeks at least.

The ice cream shops would normally have been busy with people enjoying a cone, looking forward to a busy couple of weeks with an influx of visitors over Easter.

A typhoon from nearby RAF Lossiemouth roars overhead; the defence of the realm cannot stop for Coronavirus but even the multi-million sophistication of a fast jet bomber is powerless against this virus.

Simple measures like hand-washing, social distancing and staying at home will ultimately win the fight.

As I write, it has been announced that the UK has had its worst 24 hours for Covid-19 deaths and, sadly, this death toll is only going to rise.

The world as we know it has changed, and will probably change forever once we are through this nightmare.

The Clap for Carers on Thursday night was well observed around the UK and in my quiet cul-de-sac in Lossie, the applause reverberated.

The windows are being adorned by rainbow pictures and messages of hope from young children who must wonder what in earth is happening.

A message of hope from one youngster and thanks to key workers.

This should have been the last day of term before the Easter holidays and now kids are wondering when they will be able to return to school.

It all seems a bit bonkers, in fact a lot bonkers. Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, has just tested positive for coronavirus.

All we can do is look out for each other, family, friends, neighbours, strangers.

Until next time.....
